International Travel – International SOS

All students, faculty, and staff travelling internationally for study, research or business are required to have emergency medical travel insurance.

For faculty and staff, that coverage is automatically included in the extended benefits provided by SunLife.

UBC students are automatically enrolled in an extended health care plan, unless they choose to opt out because they have coverage with another plan, such as that of a parent. The coverage typically includes emergency medical travel insurance.

International SOS

International SOS (ISOS) is under contract to UBC to provide health and security assistance to UBC students, faculty and staff while abroad. All groups are automatically covered by ISOS.

Students, faculty, and staff can access the International SOS service any time:

Students are also eligible for three mental health sessions if they are experiencing concerns while abroad on a UBC program by calling 215-942-8478 any time.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to download International SOS Membership Card.

ISOS is also available in the rare instances when the emergency medical assistance through an extended health plan, as described above, is insufficient or otherwise unable to provide the help needed.
