Getting UBC and you ready for a seismic emergency

It can be hard to picture a significant earthquake in Vancouver. What would it look like? One example that matches well to Vancouver is the recent experience in Wellington, New Zealand (pictured). In the past 5 years there have been several major earthquakes in New Zealand that have shown us what would likely happen here.

While UBC always has seismic preparations underway, we’re working to move faster to improve our buildings, prepare people for action, and plan for continuity after a significant disruption.

What can you do to help? Wellington has shown us that personal preparation is the simplest first step. Start by having easy access to comfortable walking shoes at your desk (you may have a very long walk home) and access to warm clothes and some snacks. Ready to take a bigger step?
